It’s hard to plan for back to school season when we don’t know what to plan for. We might be back in the classroom, we might be teaching virtually… heck, we might be doing both! What we do know is that regardless of where we are, we’ll have students who are eager to meet us, a classroom community to build, and parents who need a whole lot of information. But how do we plan for a back to school or meet the teacher night that might take place in person and might take place over a computer screen? Don’t worry friend, I’ve got you covered!
Normal Back to School Season
During a normal back to school season, I prepare my classroom for students to come meet me a few days before school begins. I do a quick PowerPoint with information for families, students go on a scavenger hunt around the classroom and school, and they take home important forms to fill out. If we go back to school in person this year, I plan to do the same thing.
However, if we are teaching virtually in the Fall, I still want my students’ families to get all the information I would tell them during our meet the teacher night. [Who are we kidding, they’ll probably need MORE information!] I can still do the same PowerPoint I was planning on doing in person, with one little twist!
Virtual Back to School Season
Instead of presenting it in person, I will use ScreenCastify to record myself giving the presentation on my computer. Families will be able to see me and make that connection, and I’ll be able to talk to them instead of just sending them my PowerPoint. I can send them my recording through SeeSaw, Google Classroom, or just plain old email. They can even view it on their own schedule, whenever they’re free!
Does that sound like a good solution? It’s super easy to make your own PowerPoint, just type in the information you want to tell parents! And if you want to go the already made route, I have an already created but completely editable one ready for you right here!
