Are you using Seesaw in your classroom this year? Seesaw is a fantastic, free app that connects families, teachers, and students. It can be used as a parent communication tool, a student journal, a teaching tool, and so much more. I get asked a lot of questions about using Seesaw in the primary classroom, so I’ve compiled a list of Seesaw tips.
There are two different Seesaw apps. Which one do I tell people to download?
Parents and families should download the Seesaw parent and family app to communicate with you, while students should download the Seesaw class app to complete assignments.
How do I invite families to connect to Seesaw?
There are several different ways to do this. You can enter parents’ email addresses or phone numbers and they will receive an invite via email or text message. You can print out QR codes to send home with students that parents can scan to join your Seesaw class. You can also share your class link with parents and families in an email.
How do I get the visuals when I type my directions in a Seesaw activity?
Use these codes to input the visuals into your activity directions.
Can kids see each others’ work in Seesaw?
If you are using At Home Learning Codes, students can only see their own work. However, if you enable the Class Blog, students can view each others’ work on your class Seesaw blog.
Can students complete activities independently?
Absolutely! Use the icons from the visual above in your activity directions. Make sure to include voice directions so students can listen to you read the activity directions to them. You can also include a video example of the activity so students can see it in action.
Can you make any activity a Seesaw activity?
Pretty much! You can take any PDF and save it as a JPEG or PNG file (a picture file). Once you upload that as the template for the activity, students will be able to interact with it. You can make it even more interactive by adding shapes or text on top of the image for students to move around (right in Seesaw!).
